  1. The plant is native to South America and is said to originate from the region between southern Brazil and Paraguay.
  2. Ancient civilizations like the Mayans and the Aztecs were very well-familiar with this fruit.
  3. In 1493, explorer Christopher Columbus found pineapples on Guadeloupe Island in the Caribbean.  
  4. It takes nearly 3 years for a single pineapple to reach maturation.
  5. Pineapple plants have really pretty flowers. which can vary from lavender, through light purple to bright red. When creating its fruit, it usually produces up to 200 flowers. Actually, pineapple fruit itself is a bunch of “fruitlets” fused together.
  6. It looks like a pinecone. When European explorers first encountered the fruit in the Americas, they called them “pineapples” because of the similarity to pine cones.
  7. There are more than a hundred kinds of pineapples that grow in varying sizes.
  8. The pineapple is made up of mostly water (86%) and carbohydrates (13%), with almost no fat or protein.
  9. Pineapples do floats in water.
  10. The Guinness world record for the heaviest pineapple was set by a pineapple weighing 8.06 kg.
