- More fresh mangoes are eaten throughout the world every day than any other fruit.
- Mangoes were first grown in India over 5,000 years ago.
- It is believed that Buddha meditated under the cool shade of a mango tree.
- Mango leaves are often used at weddings as a belief that the couple will bear plenty of children.
- Over 500 varieties of mangoes are known, many of which ripen in summer, while some give a double crop. The fruit takes four to five months from flowering to ripen. The most popular worldwide are Alphonso, Valencia Pride, Badami, Kesar, and Chaunsa.
- One of the famous variety of mangoes the langda aam was named after a lame farmer of Varanasi, India, who first noticed the variety growing in his backyard. Soon people started referring to this variety of mangoes as langda aam. In Hindi, langda means lame.
- Mangos are distantly related to the cashew and pistachio plants as all of them belongs to anacardiaceae family.
- The English singular form mango comes from the Latin Mangifera indica meaning mango-bearing plant from India.
- Mango seeds are used to make soap due to its high stearic acid content.
- Burning Mango leaves, woods, or debris is not advisable as they are toxic in nature and can seriously infect the eyes and lungs.
